Lockdown is a story about the people of Lagos city who were caught up in a tragic event and quarantined for 21 days. New bonds get formed as people share their stories with others in isolation.
Mr. Omar Samir flew to Lagos for an important meeting. Little did he know that he was carrying the deadly Holo Virus. He coughed blood and was feeling restless. Femi, his driver rushed him to the hospital, and then, Dr. Njoku conducted some tests on him. The laboratory results came out positive for the virus. As this was a very serious matter that put the lives of millions of Nigerians in danger, she contacted the director of NCDC (National Center for Disease Control).
With immediate effect, the entire hospital is under strict lockdown. Police are guarding the hospital, and they have been ordered to shoot anyone who attempts to leave the hospital. This is a pretty serious and sensitive time for the country as the lives of millions are at risk, with no treatment available for the virus.
We see that nobody is allowed to enter or leave the hospital at any cost. All the entry points of the hospital get locked up. All those who came in contact with the patient had to be isolated for 21 days as the infective period of the disease ranged from 2 to 21 days. They can be allowed to leave after completion of the quarantine with a negative result for the Holo virus. The people who got locked up in the hospital have things to do, they have important matters to which they have to attend. As the doctor also says that they are unlucky people who were at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Initially, you may not be able to connect the dots for why the lives of so many people have been shown simultaneously. Then, when they land up in the same hospital, and Mr. Omar comes, it becomes pretty clear what is happening.
Sunny won a ten million Naira lottery. He had to report to the head office of the company that organized the lottery within four days. If he is unable to do it, the prize money won’t be given to him. So, Sunny attempts to leave the hospital but gets shot in the chest. We can see how desperate the people were at the center. They had their lives and people who were waiting for them to come back.
Being in quarantine isn’t easy, this is what the recent pandemic taught us, but it also doesn’t mean that for one’s benefit, the lives of millions of others can be put in danger. Lockdown is an interesting film that won’t make you feel bored. It will make the audience familiar with the toll a disease has on the mental and emotional health of people.
In my opinion, you should watch Lockdown. It tells us what people and their loved ones go through during a pandemic. The film has been beautifully executed, and the acting was also on point. There was no unnecessary drama, and just the real things have been shown. People panic as their lives is in danger. With such a beautifully written plot that describes a situation similar to the pandemic that shook the world, it becomes interesting to watch. Many good movies based on the attack of viruses have already been made, and Lockdown adds up to that list. The panic, anger, and guilt can be clearly seen. You might want to skip through a few parts of the movie as at some points the plot seems to be exaggerated. The duration of the film is almost two and a half hours, which could have been cut short.
Final Score – [7/10]
